Our projects in Himalayas for empowering the women are located in the Lower Dharamsala in the district. We are working hard to increase the rate of education in women in Himalaya region. The current situation is that being a mountain region Himachal is lacking in the education especially in girl education. The most of the girls and women do not go to school because they have to go for helping their families in daily earning and farming related works.
We are trying to raise the bar of education for girls and women in Dharamshala district by conducting several education sessions, bridge courses and informal classes to empower them with education and information about their rights. We are looking for hard working and dedicated volunteers to support our campaigns and classes for women empowerment in Himalayas. We hope to reach up-to every illiterate woman in the region with the support and assistance by our volunteers.
As a volunteer, your duties are as follows:
You will be working on the projects from Monday to Friday and weekends are free. Being in the one of the most beautiful locations in India, you will be having a lot of time to visit some nearby places in Dharamshala. Surrounded by cedar forests on the edge of the Himalayas, this hillside city is home to the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government-in-exile. The Thekchen Chöling Temple Complex is a spiritual center for Tibetan Buddhism, while the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives houses thousands of precious manuscripts.
Lower Dharamshala comprises a largely Indian community, while a Tibetan enclave lives uphill in the suburb of McLeod Ganj. Near the Dalai Lama’s main temple, Tsuglagkhang, is a Buddhist monastery known as Namgyal Gompa. The Tibet Museum provides a historical overview of Tibet’s occupation. Cultural establishments include the Norbulingka Institute, a haven for traditional Tibetan arts and crafts, and the Tibetan Institute for Performing Arts, which preserves Tibetan opera, music and dance. The city also offers trekking trails leading across the mountains to Triund, the upper Ravi Valley and beyond. Have alook at the pictures below;
