Project Background

We are associated with educational projects in Dharamshala district in Himalayas. Dharamshala is a city in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. Surrounded by cedar forests on the edge of the Himalayas, this hillside city is home to the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government-in-exile. The Thekchen Chöling Temple Complex is a spiritual center for Tibetan Buddhism, while the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives houses thousands of precious manuscripts.

Our program is in a NGO (Non government organization) run school for the local neighborhood kids. The community schools here have a real need for volunteers, who can teach the local children and help them finish their school syllabus on time, so that they are not left behind in their education. The ages you will be teaching range from 3-15 years old, from 1st to 8th standard. The students from Himalaya region having no good education because of the limited transport facilities in the area. The schools have a limited number of teachers due to the lack of funds and resources, so volunteers are very much an important part of making them run successfully each year. We work with a number of schools in this situation.
