Project Background

Stunning location surrounded by mountains and situated in the beautiful city of India, Jaipur, and our Elephant care project is in a great need of volunteers who can work with elephants and share the responsibility of mahouts (Elephant riders). The project is situated nearby Amber fort and in total it has 110 Elephants. All the Elephants were a part of Maharaja`s parade but after independence of India all the Elephants are using in the riding for tourists who come to visit Jaipur. The Elephants is a gentle animal and needs affection. The mahouts are under-paid and earns merely around 40$-60$ a month. This is why they are demotivated towards their responsibility of taking care of Elephants and hence the Elephants are missing the love, affection and care they need.

As a volunteer, your possible duties are as follows:

  1. Learn how to interact with an Elephant from mahouts.
  2. Making food bundles.
  3. Feeding Elephants.
  4. Cooking Chapaties. (Indian wheat bread)
  5. Cleaning Elephant housing.
  6. Bathing Elephants.
  7. Head massage to Elephants*.
  8. Foot trimming*.

Imp: *These activities are dependent on the weather conditions and the mahout’s decision.
